Celebrate Abraxas’s 30th Anniversary

PLEASE JOIN US for an early Denman Island Readers and Writers Festival three-part special event on Saturday, May 20 in honour of the 30th anniversary of Abraxas, Denman Island’s independent bookstore

Part 1: The History of Abraxas Books, a 15-minute skit animating Abraxas’s history through characterizations of the bookstore’s owners throughout the years, by Tachi Barker and CVWS member Stewart Goodings.

Part 2: A reading and multi-media presentation by Edward Slingerland, author of the book “Drunk: How We Sipped, Danced and Stumbled Our Way to Civilization. This book explores the role of alcohol in human history, and the ways in which our relationship with alcohol has shaped our society and culture over time. Slingerland’s writing is filled with intellectual insight into human behavior, told with humor and fascinating anecdotal detail, and also deals with a topic fraught with controversy.

Part 3: Seven Countries and the Seven Wines that Made them Famous. Sample wines from around the world and learn about the history and culture behind each one.

Tickets for the evening are available for purchase now at Abraxas on online at: https://denmanislandwritersfestival.com/edward-slingerland/
